A Moment of Solitude

a-moment-of-solitude

I turned 40 during COVID. Definitely not the 40th birthday that I imagined I would have, but it turned out to be an entirely different kind of wonderful.

Fortunately, I work for an amazing organization and I was able to take the week of my birthday off for some rest and wellness. In the effort to curb the spread of COVID, the main option for a birthday activity was camping. However, many of the larger campgrounds don’t have any facilities open and while they are outdoors the campgrounds are still quite crowded. Luckily we found Hipcamp.com!

With Hipcamp we were able to find an isolated camp site on private land near Mt. Hood that has some of the most spectacular views.

Enola Hill

As part of an 80 acre private property surrounded by Mt. Hood National Forest, Enola Hill is an absolute treasure. A stunning location for a moment of solitude and absolute quiet, minus all of the enchanting bird songs. If you all have been keeping up on my posts you know that I typically run at full steam on all days, and spend my free time seeking peace and meditation for balance. Until our time at Enola Hill, I didn’t realize how badly I needed additional time to fully unplug and breathe.

A 40th Birthday to Remember

We woke up to this breathtaking morning in the clouds that looked straight out of a fairy land. The shot below is straight from my camera with no filters. It was the perfect way to wake up after a rainy night at camp.

From morning camp coffee and hammock time, to daisy chains and walking to the nearby creek. Our stay at Enola Hill was everything I wanted to ring in my 40th year. This site also has a very delightful and clean outhouse to make the wilderness feel like glamping, and much less to transport in and out :).

Note: If you are in the Portland area and interested in staying at Enola Hill, I obviously highly recommend it, but want to note that 4-wheel drive with proper clearance is a definite must. The road up to Enola Hill has significant potholes and ruts as well as downed trees.

Looking for unique adventures this summer? Don’t miss Hipcamp.com and find incredible camping spots like Enola Hill in your area.
