With all of the extra “inside” time right now, I started dreaming of all the travel adventures of the past and longing for the next adventures to come. For now, I’ve decided to settle on quarantine travel photos by recreating some of my favorite moments for some of the most memorable trips, but in 2020 style.
Ireland 2018
One of my favorite trips of all time was to Ireland and Northern Ireland. My ancestors are from Ireland, and I have never felt more at home while traveling as I did in Ireland. Of all of the locations that we visited, we decided to forgo the classic tourist spot of Cliffs of Moher, and on a locals suggestion chose to instead experience Slieve League on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal.
Slieve League has some of the highest cliffs in Ireland at almost 2000 ft., and almost 3 times higher than Cliffs of Moher. The beauty is breathtaking and hiking to the top allows you to lean into some of the strongest winds I’ve experienced.
Ireland 2018 vs. Quarantine 2020
Prague, Czech Republic 2008
In a whirlwind backpacking trip through Europe, we visited Prague, Czech Republic; Innsbruck, Austria; and Venice, Italy.
Prague is one of my favorite cities. Life and history are in abundance, and you feel the city’s pulse when walking around. One of the days, we had to run to escape a significant rain storm and stumbled into an amazing cafe with some of the most memorable company. We spent the afternoon, eating, drinking and talking with the couple next to us who were from Bordeaux, France. The following recreate is near the end of the afternoon.
Venice, Italy 2008
The iconic Venice had been on my travel list since I was young, and it is everything you can imagine it to be. While most days are quite crowded, you can still find moments in the evenings of calm, and find cafes that are off the beaten path. Capturing true moments of humanity while traveling is something that my husband is particularly brilliant at (you can see his work here: www.dkkramer.com/travel). This image of a gondolier in a candid moment taking a break on his phone is one that I have always loved.
