Yoga For Kids

yoga-for-kids

With a very active 9 year old daughter, one of our quarantine goals is to provide a variety of daily physical activities. On sunny days the activity includes walking the dog and on rainy days using the treadmill. We’ve also incorporated learning new dances and practicing various level of yoga into our daily routine. Over the weeks, we’ve been working on basic poses and finding yoga for kids online courses.

Yoga for kids can help improve focus and concentration, as well as memory and comprehension. With the abrupt shift to homeschooling, it’s a great time to start or continue practicing mindfulness and yoga together.

Motivation For Kids With Their Own Gear

A brand that I love for yoga equipment is Gaiam. I was thrilled to find the kids yoga mats in such fun patterns and colors. My daughter chose the adorable elephant print for her yoga mat and having her own mat has really increased her motivation to practice with me.

The mat arrived with great excitement from my daughter. It’s a great quality mat and the perfect size for her, and the print is just so adorable.

Having her own mat inspired the creation of a few images of her favorite yoga poses. Make sure to stay tuned for more in our yoga for kids series soon. For this first round, the slideshow below has my daughters 4 favorite poses.

In addition to the yoga mat, I also got her the Kidnasium Activity Dice. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure if she would enjoy these, but they are so much fun! My daughter and I have spent several 30-45 minute sessions playing with the activity dice, and truly a great amount of energy expenditure.

We set various timers to increase the pace of the game. Initially, we started in 5-10 minute increments and took turns rolling the dice and completing the activities. The goal being to try to complete as many turns as possible in the timeframe.

Side note: the dice are a soft foam material so no need to worry about floor, furniture or foot damage.

Join Us In Our May Yoga Challenge

I am challenging myself to do yoga everyday in the month of May, even if it’s only 5-10 minutes. No judgement, no negative self talk, no comparing my current abilities to what I see on social media…just self love and building strength!

May is also Skin Cancer Awareness Month, so my prime to boost my health and wellbeing. Check out more of my wellness posts here.

Gaiam has been a favorite brand of mine for some time. I greatly appreciate their ability to make yoga accessible and easy to access (and at great prices too!!) From the vast amount of products to the yoga app for online courses, I recommend Gaiam for your yoga practice.
